While Tom has the experience of developing multiple start-up businesses and growing them successfully… It was his most recent enterprise that provided him with the most difficult of learning and growth experiences. It was only six weeks after the launch of Swank Lease Systems, Inc. that Tom’s wife of just fourteen months would be severely injured in a tragic accident that would forever change their lives and result in his wife’s permanent disability. There were a number of complex issues that also resulted in the loss of his wife’s income, denial of her disability benefits and denial of medical care by their HMO plan, which took many years for Tom to adequately address and overcome.
The majority of Tom’s time was out of necessity devoted to caring for his wife and fighting the battles to get her the treatment and surgeries that she required. As his business had been started on a shoe string, they soon found themselves dealing with financial calamity. Tom was also faced with the reality that he couldn’t go back to working for someone else, as it would be impossible to maintain any reasonable work schedule while continuing to care for his wife.
Tom had no choice but to find a way to make himself a success… and did he ever. After receiving a referral for a single piece of business valued at $18,000, he worked tirelessly to innovate a program that would first earn the client’s business at the local level. Tom subsequently persevered in growing this client into a major national account with an international reach and a sales volume of over $30,000,000.00.
Not only did he earn this client’s business at the highest level, he was privileged to serve this client for nearly 20 years… During which time his son would also be seriously injured and become permanently disabled.
